World Bank Policy on Road Compensation

Under the World Bank Policy, land compensation or any other compensation for that matter is not allowed.
The World Bank is prepared to fund such infrastructures like these to bring developments and improve lives of the rural people as log as there is no demand for compensation.
If there are compensation issues arising from these road works, the World Bank will pull out its funding and leave the Government of Papua New Guinea to fund it on its own.
The Government of Papua New Guinea does not have this kind of money to spend.
It is therefore essential that people living along the road corridor of these project areas, and particularly the landowners are warned not to make unnecessary compensation demands thereby jeopardising these very important projects for their provinces and the country as a whole.

Newsflash

I saw this on the www.nichibocars.com website, and though a repetition, still useful to remember.

As of January 1st, 2010, Mr. Brian Riches, Chief Executive Office of PNG Ports has declared the following in relation to the import of used vehicles into the ports of Port Moresby and Lae:

1) All motor vehicles entering the ports of Port Moresby and Lae will require the vehicles to be pre-cleared (customs duty paid) prior to the motor vehicle being allowed to be discharged. Should a shipping line permit a motor vehicle to be discharged contrary to this rule the subject Line will be required to back-load the motor vehicle at the Lines expense on the first available vessel of return to the port of loading.
