Work on 9mile (Lae) weighing station stalled because of contractor

Don PolyeA contractor based in Australia is holding up work on the 9mile weighing station outside Lae, Morobe Province. Works Minister Hon Don Polye said work on the weighing station began last year however, the contractor has not began to install the instruments needed. The contactor is also the supplier of the instruments needed at the weighing station.  The Minister said vehicles were carrying heavy loads up and down the Lae - Madang-Highlands Highway and this was wearing out the roads. Mr Polye said there are plans to build other weighing stations along the Highlands Highways at either Toguba, Southern Highlands Province or at Kagul, in Western Highlands Province.
