Port Moresby City Bus Service on The Road …& send us a pic of you riding one and win K20

The National Capital District City Bus Service is finally on the road beginning 12 of May 2010.
For a month, passengers in Port Moresby can hop on for free travelling on designated routes during selected peak hours, however they must show valid work ID’s.  Consisting of ten buses that can carry up to 40 passengers, the buses will operate during peak hours – 6.30 am to 9.30 am and 2.30 pm and 7pm.
The buses will circle the city along the following six routes;

Route 1 and 2: 4 mile – Gerehu Return (Gerehu Dr, Goro – Kaega Rd, Waigani Drive, Sir Hubert Murray Highway).

Route 3: 4 Mile - Tokarara return (Sir Hubert Murray Highway, Boroko Dr, Waigani Dr, Wards Rd, Dika – gari, Koura Way, Waigani Dr).

Route 4: 4mile – Downtown (Sir Hubert Murray Highway, Boroko Dr, Healy Parade, Ela Beach road).

Route 5: 4 mile – Kondedobu (Sir Hubert Murray Highway, Boroko Dr, Gavani Rd, Scratchley Rd, Ela Beach Rd, Champion Pd).

Route 6: 4 mile – 7 mile (Sir Hubert Murray Highway, Boroko Dr, Geauta Dr, Airport Rd, More Tobo Rd).

Each bus will be staffed by the driver an assistant and four marshals for the security of the buses.

No smoking on the bus. Alcohol, chewing buai or littering. For many of passengers who travel to and from work every day and are hassled by PMV operators or by the petty criminals who operate especially at the 4 mile and Koki bus stops, this new bus service is a blessing.
Hats of to Powes Parkop, the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and the Law and Justice Sector for spearheading this simple, yet long awaited initiative. I hope the PMV operators can wake up and better their service, or ship out. Also thank you  Brisbane City Council, Queensland, Australia.
