Port Moresby Rotary One Day Driving Course

 The Port Moresby Rotary Club annual one-day driving course will be held from the 21st March 2011 to the 2nd April 2011.The companies and individuals are invited to enroll drivers for the one day driving course. 

Benefits of program

 Employers – better drivers, protection of company equipment and saving of potential loss of time and insurance costs

 Drivers – Safer driving and fewer accidents resulting in savings for injuries, legal costs and loss of vehicle.

 Everyone – direct contribution to greater safety on PNG’s roads.

 

Trainers are fully qualified professional instructors from Townsville, Australia.

 Participant requirements

 Current driver’s license.

 Vehicles provided must have current registration, insurance and safety sticker.

 Vehicles up to 3 tonnes unloaded acceptable.

 

The course outlines are

1.     Basic Course

Focus on teaching theory and practise of “system driving” covering vehicle checks, various driving basics such   as seating position, concentration etc.

Defensive driving – basic skills of looking ahead, maintaining a safety gap, emergency braking and brake and       evade techniques.

2.     Advanced Course

 Prerequisite for this course is successful completion of the basic driving course.

Deals with higher speed techniques and situation avoidance.

 

Course fees

 Basic courses K500 covers instruction, tea breaks, lunch, course notes and certificates for those completing the  course successfully

 Advanced course K300 per participant (must complete Basic course first. A ½ day course only).

 Payment due before course starts.

 

Course timetable

 Full day’s program – 8am to 4pm

 Classroom theory for 2-3 hrs and remaining time for practical instruction on a safe training road

 Morning and afternoon tea and lunch provided.

 Rotary Club will advise paid up participants of venue, time slot etc closer to course commencement time.

Funds raised

Funds raised through this program will be utilised for major Rotary community projects such as the PNG School desk projects and Rotary Against Malaria.

The Vision 2050, recently launched by the Government with a lot of fanfare was a hard document to get hold of, but thanks to one fine lady on Madang, we got our hands on a copy to see what it said about transport.
