Papua New Guinea Chief Secretary, Manasupe Zurenuoc and Works Secretary, Joel Luma have advised that Mori Resources Limited, the consulting company responsible for the Highlands Highway rehabilitation program payment exercise, will continue overseeing the payment of compensation to affected landowners.
They said contract between the State and the company is legally binding, and that no one else outside the contracting party has any right to terminate the contract with the government and therefore Mori Resources Limted will continue and complete the HHRP payment exercises.
They said the firm used a non-transferable license to access information from NASA through Pitney Bowes Software Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia.
This data was used to map structures within the corridors of the Highlands Highway and to also establish the road reserve along the entire corridors of the highway.
Mr Luma pointed said the system was accurate and transparent and detered manipulation of data.
Highlands Highway rehabilitation program payment exercise has been rife with controversy, with the State already being defrauded through excessive compensation payments exceeding K54 million, of which K21 million was paid for structures that were outside of the 40-metre road corridor.
