According to sources, their have been a litany of outrageous compensation claims on the Southern Highlands portion of the Highlands Highway.
These include a K100,000 demand for some bamboo crushed on the road side and compensation of K1200 over a death of a cat, both ran over by heavy trucks in the Southern Highlands.
In the case of the bamboo, these were cut and carried by a man to his house. He was startled by an oncoming truck and threw some of the bamboo on the road, which the truck ran over. He dutifully demanded a large compensation payment for the bamboo.
Larry Andagali, Managing Director of Trans Wonderlands Ltd, already frustrated with the Governments confusing efforts to address the Highlands Highway has also called for the State to address this culture of unreasonable compensation demands that has emerged over the last few years.
