ADB Assists PNG Build Bridges

The Asian Development Bank has approved a K90 million loan to assist the PNG Government build and replace bridges in rural places of PNG and improve road safety along the nation's five national highways.

This is part of the States project to upgrade and maintain the roads and bridges of all sections of the national highways. This assistance will cover replacing old one lane bailey bridges with two lanes bridges and building one lane bridges along feeder roads.

The overall project to improve the national highways will take 40 years and involve up to 200km per year.

ABD country director Charles Andrew said ADB is working with the Government to implement the project.
