Bad roads are destroying education and other services in rural areas, says teachers from the schools of a rural district in Western Highlands Province.
The teachers from the Sol Primary School and Jimi High School in the Jimi District, WHP, said it was demoralising seeing teachers and students and other public servants carry supplies and food on their backs for kilometers because the roads in the areas are so deteriorated that even 4wd’s cant make it in there.
They said public servants are not taking up roles in the Jimi area because of this problem, leaving schools without teachers, medical centres without staff, administration buildings without clerks and police stations that have no officers.
They have called on the Government and the Provincial Government to fund the roads and fix this problem, not just in Jimi but also in the rest of Papua New Guinea.
