The ANZ Bank in its latest report on economic growth in Papua New Guinea suggests that the Highlands Highway, unless reconstructed and rehabilitated as soon as possible, will be a hindrance to development in Papua New Guinea.
In its report ANZ said the PNG economy is expected to grow by 7.5% this year. Adding to this, the report stated that the boom caused by the PNG LNG project could push this growth to 10% this year.
However, the report states that a lack of development and maintenance of PNG’s vital infrastructure such as the Highlands Highway and other roads, wharves, airports etc would stymie this growth.
